Individual Project | Fall 2018 | Design III

Objects and materials have characteristics that have the ability to express emotions, feelings, and even memories. The intention of this assignment was to capture a positive memory in the interior of a box with curated objects and apertures for viewing and letting in light.

This box contains the memory of hiking in Colorado. Not only was there a sense of awe but also a freshness and calmness as dry air swept through the large coniferous trees. This memory is contained in the box using manipulated nails, concrete, string, and reflected surfaces.

To look in the box the viewer must look through a hole after pulling on the spring-loaded mechanism extracted from a floppy disk. When released the view of the scene vanishes reflecting the fleeting and ephemeral nature of memories themselves.
