Student Napping Behavior

Team Members: David Newman, Leslie Scherger, Malati Vasudevan

David Newman: “Do you get enough sleep?…” Anonymous Students: “No, “No,” “Not, even close”

In this study, we wanted to investigate student napping behavior and whether or not students might benefit from improved resources and spaces for napping on the University of Texas campus.

We hypothesized students do not get an adequate amount of sleep, driving many students to take naps during the day. Even so, lack of sleep has proven to impact well-being and academic performance. We noticed particularly, students living off-campus do not have as many resources and spaces for rest. We believed students would in turn benefit from improved resources and spaces for napping on campus.

During this research, we strove to understand the existing resources and research on student napping behavior and conducted interviews and surveys to provide design insights and suggestions.
