In-between/Form

Individual Project | Spring 2018 | Design II

This project explores the in-between and the potential occupation of the “in-between.” It began by developing a tectonic framing structure from a basic rectangular prism. The process was continued and planes were added strategically to the iterations to explore tectonic and stereotomic characteristics.

This project, in particular, is interested in exploring tectonics and stereotomic through the use of operability and change over time. Hypothetically, in the morning the structure could be opened to express tectonic framework, curiosity, and socialization. While in the evening, the object could close and appear as a private and stereotomic entity.

The in-between space serves as a barrier that separates the internal frame from the exterior shell which heightens the surprise when the object is opened. When opened, an internal occupiable volume lies on the inside as an ending place for a potential occupant.
