Corolla Tile
Individual Project | Spring 2019 | Construction II
The inspiration of this tile comes from the orchid; a flower with a variety of meanings most often related to beauty and grace.
The flower itself offers elegant curvatures, layers of petals, and a variety of components. The tile design chooses to explore these properties by using similar soft curvatures, varying depth, and multiple pieces.
The name of the tile “Corolla” also harkens back to the project’s naturalistic inspiration, since, in botany, a corolla is a cluster of petals.
While there are many related characteristics, the tile itself is not intended as an abstracted orchid, but rather an exploration of its form to create an inspired artifact.
