Innovative Assembly
Partner: Lilli Geen | Spring 2019 | Construction II
This assembly is dedicated to exploring possible applications of e-waste in the built environment, particularly through a wall assembly.
According to National Geographic, each family discards 400 iPhones’ worth of e-waste a year. This equates to approximately 176 pounds. In 2016 the “e-waste” mountain reached 44.7 million metric tons. By 2021 it is projected to be around 52.2 million metric tons.
In addition, there is approximately 55 billion dollars worth of material (which includes gold, silver, copper, and platinum) that is recoverable. While there are some recycling programs and organizations dedicated to reducing e-waste, there is more than enough to go around.
